The Instruments Are On Their Way!
After many months of hard work by members of Lydbrook Band, the instruments for Lithuania were finally despatched on Sunday 4th March for Panevezys. A carrier from Lithuania (which had just delivered a load into London) arrived in Lydbrook in the pouring rain to load the instruments. Trumpets, cornets, horns, baritones, euphoniums, trombones and Eb and Bb basses were all packed into boxes and despatched to the City Hall in Panevezys for distribution to the local villages. A party of 9 are off to Lithuania on 15th March for an official hand-over to the Major of Panevezys.

Many thanks are due to Jo Millin for her hours of hard work, together with others who assisted with cleaning and repairs. A special thanks to Derek Barnes for his work in the repairs department.

A Very Happy New Year!
We would like to wish you all a very happy new year and give a big thank you to everyone who has supported the Trefor Evans Trust in 2006. It is amazing that we have already exceed the aim of collecting 100 instruments and we now have a total of 110 with more on the way. We would still like to encourage you to continue contributing to the Trust and allow more people the chance to enjoy the pleasures of making music and being in a brass band. Here's to 2007!

'Across Wales' for Lithuania
Earlier in the summer, Trefor's sister and brother-in-law Pam and Rob Williams, raised a fantastic £300 towards the Trefor Evans Trust by doing a sponsored walk.

They were taking part in the Across Wales walk.  Rob started at Staylittle and finished in Kerry which was 28 miles long and took him 8 hours to complete. Whilst Pam started at Llandinam and finished at Kerry in 5 hours .

Congratulations and well done to them both on a fantastic effort.

A Pint Full Of Generosity!
The Downton Severnside Brass Band played on Saturday 26th August at the Frocester beer festival where a large crowd of beer lovers enjoyed some good old favourites such as The Floral Dance, Zambezi and Breezing Down Broadway.

Downton Severnside Brass is made up of players from many local bands which get together once a year for the beer festival. This year, it was decided that the fee of £300 should be donated to the Trefor Evans Trust as Trefor played many times at the festival. Mrs Anne Downton presented Jo Millin with the donation, which was photographed for the local press.
Jo , Trefor's partner would like to thank all concerned for the very generous donation.

Memorial Concert
On Sunday 18th June 2006 a concert was held in memory of Trefor at Lakers School in the Forest of Dean. The concert featured the Gloucestershire Youth Brass Band and the Lydbrook Band. The event raised £641 for the Trust.

The concert opened with a few words of thanks, a few memories of Trefor and a thank you from Lithuania for the dedication towards raising these funds. The GYBB began in a traditional brass band manner with the March Slaidburn. Among other pieces, they featured two movements from Lydian Pictures which was their set test piece for the National Youth Finals earlier this year and also a quite moving performance of The Little Prayer by Evelyn Glennie. They concluded their performance with a rousing rendition of the traditional Welsh tune, Men of Harlech.

After the raffle, members of Lydbrook Band took to the stage to perform a selection of light concert music. The Band's conductor, Steve Sykes, also picked up his instrument to perform the old favourite Bass In The Ballroom and then joined the already 5 strong Bass section to play The Elephant. Their programme also included music from Sunset Boulevard, I' Got Rhythm, Philip Sparke's Jubilee Prelude and the theme music from The Muppet Show.

It was a fitting, enjoyable and meaningful concert. Hopefully this will be the first of such events to help contribute towards providing instruments to those who wish to play.
